Cholera Prevention and Education

Our rapid-response platform kicked in immediately once the cholera epidemic was announced. Within 6 days of the outbreak our education teams had visited over 23 tent camps and provided the knowledge and supplies for the prevention of cholera.

  • Total number of families living in camps visited: 38,000 families
  • Number of cholera educators trained: 6 GRU volunteers, 10 community volunteers, 150 community leaders
  • Number of presentations in communities led by trained community leaders: 400

GrassRoots United distributed hygiene buckets, helped with several decontamination projects in camps, gave presentations at schools and in communities and in camps, distributed Oral Rehydration Salts, donated buckets and taps, installed hand washing stations and trained both local volunteers community leaders in cholera prevention and education.
