GRU is serving as a distribution hub connecting surplus medical goods to those that need them. Large organizations have large amounts of supplies, but lack information about the needs of smaller local clinics and hospitals. We are also developing a means for these small clinics to communicate their needs, which helps them to focus on their patients.
GRU is working with Haitian medical students to assess and build a network between local clinics. The clinics in Haiti have many needs and few ways to communicate them and Haitian medical students are not in the classroom as their schools lie mostly in ruins. We are in discussions to give the students' college credit for their efforts, which gives the schools time to rebuild while not taking away from the students' education. By further connections to American medical universities, both Haitian and American students could further benefit by cultural exchange programs and internship opportunities.
